Goddard is a well known family name in Barbados. The biggest family are merchants.

My Grandfather was George Goddard but I don't know if his family were connected to the Caribbean but I have found out that his mother's family were definitely linked.Their name was Press and they traded from Norfolk. We have African ancestry through them. If anyone has any info I should be very interested and grateful.

Goddard is not one of the families that I am actively researching, but I do have a couple of Goddards (of African descent) in my family tree from Barbados (i.e., James, Florence and Cox).

Thank you for taking the time to send a message. It seems my ancestor married into the Press family (.long before the Goddards)

My Great Great Grandmother was named Ann Goddard of African descent. She gave birth to a mulatto son, James Stanley Braithwaite in April 1847 in Barbados, having apparently named him after his biological father John Braithwaite. I am trying to further identify this particular John, so far without much success!

I got no matches searching the IGI for James or James Stanley Braithwaite, so I just searched for S. Braithwaite and found this record of a father with the names James S. Braithwaite which matches his timeframe.

You may have some luck searching the images of the actual records, but it takes a long time and much patience (and a great deal of luck!!)... you can start that here...
