LYNCH - Cuba

Postby bimjim » Wed Feb 23, 2011 5:47 pm

Looking for the Irish LYNCH family who were in Jamaica from between 1710 and may still be there.

This family did quite a bit of expansion, so they may have also spread to Cuba.

A member of this family was Noel Lynch Ripley, who wrote the booklet "Buckra".

Family names that recur throughout the generations include Anthony, Dominic/Dominick, John and Patrick.

According to this booklet, the Jamaica Lynch family was related to the family of the same surname in St. Christopher (now St. Kitts), Nevis, Montserrat, Antigua, and possibly other islands, and many of those may have gone there through Jamaica. The booklet also suggests that this Lynch family had kinsmen in Ireland and London providing assistance to their merchant activities.

Joseph Lynch apparently arrived in Montserrat in 1705 and his brother, John, arrived in Jamaica about 1710.

Commercially-related family names include Sherret (Jamaica) and Blake (Barbados).

I would welcome any information on this family... here via PM to bimjim, or through the following contact form.

Jim Lynch
