I have decide Sat. morning is my Genealogy search day. Today I rediscovered this board while cleaning up my bookmarks. I read all of the postings and am going to write about my Bahama discoveries.
My ggg-grandfather was a British Citizen who was a "tide waiter' in New Providence,Bahamas. He married Mary Jane Bratton in New Providence. They had a son Samuel Alexander in 1852. I have a possible birth record of Mary Jane Bratton b. in England . Samuel Sr. family is from England. I also have heard rumors that Mary Jane is listed on a Canadian census as being born in the West Indies.
Samuel Alexander Johnson died in 1933 in BC, Canada and on his death certificate he is listed as "black" .
Over the years I have met many contacts and made many friends as a result of searching the Johnson.
My goal for 2010 is to take a trip to Nassau, search all and any records I can find and experience Nassau in a new way, as a home of an ancestor.
