GREY - Jamaica, St. Ann, Browns Town

Postby David Grey » Thu Nov 30, 2017 12:37 am

My grandfather was Henry Ridley GREY (1883-1942) of Standfast, Browns Town, St. Ann. I have traced his family back to Thomas Grey and Ann Gallimore, the parents of James Wisdom Grey (1778-1816).

I am looking to add more detail, and see if I can go back any further.

I have an Esmeralda GRAY (b. 1876) but died in Saint Ann's Bay (d. 1962). I've not been able to go back further than her father, Alexander Gray (b. circa 1834 - d. 1904). Does any of this overlap with your family history?

I also have a distant (DNA confirmed) cousin. My cousin has an ancestor Jane Elizabeth GREY (b. 1875). She married a William McKenlay and Jane's father was a James GREY. Does any of this overlap with your family history?

Floyd,
I have a James Wisdom Grey, christened 10/31/1778, died 1816, from Trelawney. Would he be the same as your James Grey?

Hi David,

I don't know if your James is the same as my James. There are so many James Gray's in the historical record. All I have on my James is that he may have had children with a Letitia Smith. I don't have a birthdate for him but guess he was born around 1830-1855.

David,

Have you taken a DNA test? We are related to the Grey's in St. Ann and a few other Parishes however. Henry Ridley Grey is a distant relative based on oral family history but I have not been successful in finding documentation. If you are on GedMatch or Ancestry, I could check to see if we share DNA.

Regards,

Shellie

Shellie,

I have submitted my DNA to Ancestry and expect to get results this month. There are two Henry Ridley Greys in my family. One was my grandfather, the other was his grandfather.

Regards,

David
