BROOKS - Jamaica, St Elizabeth

Postby kennorris » Thu Feb 05, 2015 8:07 pm

I am an Australian who had ancestors of the family Brooks in St Elizabeth, Jamaica between about 1714 (George Brooks from England) and the death of Mrs Deborah Brooks in 1823.
I am looking for any additional information to that well presented in the Caribbeana Brooks family entries
e.g. ... arib26.htm

In particular:
1. What happened to (Col) Christopher Brooks (1730-?), husband of Deborah (Hay)?
2. Are there any 'cousins' of mine left in Jamaica given that the family of George Brooks (the younger 1725-?) was generally ignored because the children were illegitimate and were the issue of "...a free mulatto woman called Mary Powell who lives with me..."? The children were granted freedom to own by special Acts and were all baptized under the name of Brooks.
3. When did George Brooks (the younger) die and where buried?
4. What was the lineage of and what happened to Thomas Hay reputed to be Secretary of Jamaica at some period in the 18th century?

There are also some suggested additions/corrections that I can now make to the Caribbeana file on the Brooks family if that is both useful and appropriate, if this is the correct forum to advance that offer.

Thank you all.
