York Castle plantation, St.Ann, Jamaica

Postby claremont » Sun May 02, 2010 9:49 am

My ancestors, the SICARD family, owned this plantation from c.1805 to c.1860/70. I believe it fell into disrepair at this time, or maybe even earlier. Does anyone know what happened?

It was sold in 1874 for £600 to the Wesleyans/Methodists, who founded York Castle school there, which itself had a troubled existence.

I would love any photo of the 19th C property referred to as the Great House.
