Another New Person in the mix

Postby FelixHyl » Mon Jan 25, 2010 3:12 pm

Hi All,

I'm new to this seach process and feeling alot confused about where to look and what I'm actually looking for.

I've been doing seaches for the the following surnames : Stampp, Hylton, Wyles and Watt. for Hylton alone I got back 142 listing when I searched the IGI. None of them were names I could recognize. I'm sure there was probably useful info in the search result but I'm really not sure what I should be looking for. One thing did jump out at me though . Henry Lancelot Hylton b.1825 in St Cathrine. My uncle's name was Lancelot and I'm wondering if its a common name in jamaica or if Its more likely to be a family name and a lead that I should follow. I no longer have any family sources that I can tap for information so any suggestions about what a next step might be would be welcome.

There are no locations provided, but using just all of your surnames I found this page on Rootsweb (now owned by Ancestry). ... id=I128599

That leads to Thomas Stobie's pages - his address is listed as Kansas - here...

I think your next move on this would be to write to him at the email address in the web page and ask if he has any connections in Jamaica.

Good luck...
