James Lewis Mayers Young was born in 1831, St. Philip parish, Barbados. His parents were Samuel William Young and Sarah James.

J.L.M.Y. married Mary Harding Clarke and I believe she died in 1859. J.L.M.Y. then married Rebecca Jane Edwards in 1861 in Bridgetown, Barbados. Sometime after that, they moved to Trinidad and lived in Port of Spain.

J.L.M.Y. was a coach builder upon his marriage to R.J.E. and was also one in P.O.S., Trinidad. The family story is that R.J.E. changed her name before she married J.L.M.Y. because "her parents disapproved of the marriage due to him being coloured."

Her parents were apparently Roger and Elizabeth Bannister. Roger was supposedly a doctor. R.J.E. was known in the family as a "fat white woman" and possibly Irish.

Our family is descended from J.L.M.Y. and R.J.E. We would be interested in any information anyone might wish to share with us.
