William RAINY b. c.1820 Dominica d. 1878 Melbourne, Australia.

Son of Willam Thomas RAINY, solicitor & (most likely) Sarah NICHOLSON of Dominica

1843: WILLIAM RAINY (jnr) employed by Colonial Office as a Customs clerk in Freetown, Sierra Leone; 1848: entered Inner Temple, London aged 28 years: 1853: returned to Freetown; 1854: admitted English Bar; 1854: admitted Supreme Court in the colony of Victoria, Australia; late 1854/early 1855: est himself in legal practise on the Ballarat Goldfield, Victoria; 1858: departed Victoria and returned to legal practice in Freetown, Sierra Leone; 1865: resident in London, England; 1867: April-June - married Elise Maria ELLIS in London (no known issue); 1867: August - attended Anti-Slavery Conference in Paris where he represented the West African colonies; 1868: returned to Freetown; 1869: returned to Australia where he established himself in legal practice at Melbourne; 1878: died in September at Melbourne.
Seeking further information about William RAINY (b. c.1820 Dominica - barrister) & George WH GRANO (b. before 1830 in Dominica) and Charles FINLAYSON (b. 1837 Jamaica - barrister). All emigrated to Australia 1853-1870.
