HALY - Nicaragua, Honduras

Post by rsogh » Wed Aug 26, 2015 3:33 pm

I am trying to find out what happened to the descendants of Stanilaus Thomas Haly who were at Bluefields and Cape Gracias a Dios in the approximate period 1830-1855.

Stanilaus (baptised as "Standish") was born in Cork, Ireland in 1793, the son of James Haly and Elizabeth née Flynn. After being educated at Stonyhurst in Lancashire, England (1803-0)8 he "disappears" but may have served in either the Royal Navy, the British Army or both.

He got married 29 Jan 1815 at the Holy Trinity RC Church in Kingston, Jamaica to Mrs. Hellena Anne Stack née Bowes (born 1784), daughter of Edward Bowes and Ann Johnson, widow of William (or John?) Stack of Jamaica. Two sons, Jacques and Robert, were born in Kingston Jamaica - though Jacques may have been by Hellena's previous marriage.

By 1824 there were 3 sons as they were visiting New York with their mother. In 1839 there is mention in Honduras / Nicaragua of S. T. Haly junior possibly indicating this third son.

A Mr. Haly and a T Haly arrived at San Francisco from Panama and Nicaragua on the SS Cortes on 16 Jul 1853. In 1855, Haly served as chief magistrate of the San Juan del Norte Council, though previously he had served for many years as secretary to the Miskito (Mosquito) king Robert Charles Frederic.

If this triggers anything in anyone's minds and they could help I would be very grateful.
