Claudy Lavin - I am looking for information on the Luzincourt family from Payen, Liancourt, L'artibonite, Haiti. I would like to establish how this family came to be and if they started around or before the independence of Haiti in 1805.

I only know of two brothers named Jenecat Luzincourt and Jerome Luzincourt. Jerome was my great grandfather and his wife Zulema. I have been told he was a cousin of the President of Haiti Dumarsais Estime who was from Verettes, Lartibonite, Haiti.

The earliest ancestor I have been told about was a slave from England who moved to Saint Domingue - now Haiti. She owned the property that the Haitian National Palace is built on and gave it as a gift to Governor Petion. She named her son Luzincourt and her grandson was the first to bear it as a surname.
