Reynold Alleyne (1609-1651) settled in Barbados from Lincolnshire in the 17th century. One of his descendants, Sir John Gay Alleyne (1724-1801), whose second wife Jane Able Alleyne (his cousin's daughter) had a sister Susanna Christian Alleyne (1763-1806) who married Richard Cobham in Barbados.

I am searching for evidence of the relationship between Richard and Susan Cobham and Dr Francis Cobham (1793-1831). Dr Cobham married Mary Harvie McCrae in Edinburgh in 1820 and on returning to Barbados they had 3 children Francis, Elizabeth Harvie and Mary Alleyne.

Dr Cobham died during the great hurricane of 1831 and his wife immediately returned to Scotland with her children. In 1841 the family immigrated to Melbourne Australia and Elizabeth married an Englishmen Mark Nicholson whose maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Reynolda Alleyne.

Family documents suggest that Mark and Elizabeth were 'distant' cousins, however I have no definitive evidence that Dr Cobham was actually an Alleyne.
