Re: Passenger and immigration lists index

Many thanks for your kind advice. I shan't be doing this for some time as I live a long way from London and only visit once every couple of years, but I will be all kitted up and ready when I do go!

Thanks again

Re: Passenger and immigration lists index

Thanks for your reply. The way you describe it is a lot simpler than I envisaged from other descriptions. I'll talk to the British Library, and see if we can fix a date! You say its only a list of pax and ships- but I am up against "the wall"- who went where, when and where from. This migh...

Re: Passenger and immigration lists index

In my researches, I have found the the Barbados archives a really useful resource, especially as many entries have been collated and made available in CD Rom form. Has anyone done the same for the passenger lists for 17th C ships? The volumes described above look very inviting, but there is no way I...

Re: BRANCH - Barbados and Grenada

Hi, William I have the Traveller's Tree - it cost less than the P&P! I have tried to scan the relevant bits so that you may read it for yourself, but I cannot fathom the technology! Anyway it was published 1950, so the events were post WW11 and pre 1950. I have not read all of it, but the bits t...

Re: BRANCH - Barbados and Grenada

William, I saw some video on YouYube and other sites of the storm last week. I hope it was not too bad for you, and you are drying out OK. A pair of Branch ancestors died in the great storm of 1780, leaving their orphan son to be brought up by his aunt and uncle. She was a Branch, and the boy was na...

Re: BRANCH - Barbados and Grenada

William, I once visited Dallas, but I am not Texan! I Expect you have noticed that most of our male ancestors were named Samuel, William, George etc in cycles and the females were largely Elizabeths? It makes things difficult, especially when a bunch of cousins all had each others' surnames as first...

Re: BRANCH - Barbados and Grenada

Hi, William, good to hear from you. I shall delve into my big box of lists, relations etc to see if I can place you in relation to me, if I am successful, I will post it here. I wrote to Peter in Australia a few years ago, but he had died, and my letter was returned. It certainly seems that he had a...

Re: BRANCH - Barbados and Grenada

OK, here goes, Samuel Ralph Branch 1766 (aprox) to 1821 was the fifth child of William Samuel Branch 20/10/1742 to 1776 and Jane Weekes. WS Branch was the 7th child of Dr John Branch 1713 to 1764 (Aprox) and Ann Fox. Dr John Branch was the fifth child of John Branch 1683 to 1720 (approx) and Elizabe...

Re: BRANCH - Barbados

Hi, Shirley, You raise a number of points. Alex BB was adopted by his aunt Hope when his parents were killed at the time of his birth. His parents were Branchs, but it is not known which ones, hence he was given the surname Branch, although his adoptive father was Barclay. I believe that the Barclay...

Re: BRANCH - Barbados and Grenada

The only Samuel Ralph Branch I have was born about 1766 in St Michael Barbados and died 1821. he was the father of Thomas Macintosh B and Samuel Edmund B, among others. If he is "Yours", I can go back a further 3 generations. let me know

Re: HAYNES - Barbados

An ancient grandmother of mine, Elizabeth Haynes married an equally ancient grandfather on 16/3/1681 in Christ Church Barbados. Strange coincidence that my actual grandmother was a Haynes, and an ancestor of hers emigrated to Barbados, probably around 1650, he could be Elizabeth's father. Please let...

Re: BRANCH - Barbados and Grenada

I'm sorry , but I have had no luck with Lawrence, Joseph or Inez. There have been connections with a family called Lawrence, and it was usual for a child somewhere to be named after a new family menber. The only Joseph I can find was in the mid 1700s. A Noel Branch was the first Cof E Chaplain in Me...

Re: BRANCH, Barbados and Grenada

Thanks, Cathy.

It's good to know someone is reading the messages on the site!

I'll look up my stuff and see if I can find a Lawrence around that time. Do you have a personal interest or is it an unrelated area?

Regards
