| 2004 Updates John Rowe sent these in for us to identify. [Any ideas on any of groups or where it was taken?] The pictures were found in a bag of wool. The lady who gave them to John, does a lot of crocheting and buys odd bags of wool for her hobby. Strange coincidence isn't it? What are the odds against that happening again? STOP PRESS: First picture personnel identified by Pete Twyman! |

Material below is extracted from Peeblesshire News which is under copyright for other than private use. I have made spelling and date corrections from original To mark the 75th anniversary of the Neidpath ceremony, Sir Cameron Rusby, the grandson of the man who introduced it to the Beltane Festival Dr. Clement Gunn was named as Warden of Neidpath for 2004. A retired naval vice-admiral who in his years of naval service has been to many parts of the world, Sir Cameron specialised in communications during World War Two. In 1958 he was given his first command which was HMS Ulster. Promoted soon after, he served two years as the Executive Officer on the Royal Yacht Britannia and several other postings followed. In 1974 he was promoted to Rear Admiral and in 1977 he was promoted to Vice-Admiral and Flag Officer for Scotland and Northern Ireland. He later retired from the Navy as Deputy Supreme Allied Commander for the Atlantic. Peebles was always in Sir Camerons mind and in 1948 he married Peebles woman Marion Bell, the daughter of local dentist Danny Bell. After retiring from the Navy, he was Legislative Advisor of the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and a Director of the World Society for the Protection of Animals. He is also a life vice-president of the St. Georges Fund for Sailors. Currently living with Marion in Melrose, he told the Peeblesshire News: Beltane is Peebles festival of the year and was the centre piece of the year for the whole town. |
