John found the negative in his ditty box.  He has no idea where it came from, he never took it, and he says he was never in 7 mess.  Can any of you identify the rest.  The picture John sent was badly damaged and I have done my best to fix it up a bit. Do you have the original?  Appreciate a good copy if anyone has one.

The 25th could be the date she originally commissioned June 25th, 1943 or that she was commissioned to serve in the 25th Destroyer Flotilla.

HMS Lewes was a four-stacker commissioned in 1918 as USS Craven later renamed USS Conway and transferred to Royal Navy in 1940 under lend lease program.  She was scuttled after being used as a   target off Sydney Australia in 1945

Ex USS CRAVEN/CONWAY. This ship had been built by US Navy Yard at Norfolk Virginia and was launched as USS CRAVEN on 29th June 1918 with completion on 19th October 1918. After US Navy service she was placed on the Disposal List and the name allocated to a new warship. Pending sale for scrap she was renamed USS CONWAY. She was transferred to the RN under the US/UK Lend Lease Agreement en 23rd October 1940. On commissioning she was renamed HMS LEWES which is common to towns in Delaware, USA and in East Sussex. This name had been used by a Paddle Minesweeper in 1918 on completion of build and sold in 1922. In March 1942 following a successful WARSHIP WEEK National Savings campaign in May 1942, this ex USN destroyer was adopted by the civil community of Lewes, East Sussex. Unlike other four funnelled Ex USN destroyers transferred to the RN she had 3” guns as main armament instead of 4” weapons.
