The Three Wisemen (shown here) who planned the 2001 mini reunion  decided to take a rest from rigors of reunion organizing, therefore I took up the challenge to organize a 50th & final reunion.  I based this idea on the fact that I was the second youngest onboard and in my 67th year, thought [wrongly] that majority of crew would not want to  formally meet again.

How wrong I was! At a general mess meeting on the Sunday of the 50th reunion, a proposal to stage another reunion met with unanimous approval.

On October 24th, 2008 the "early birds" arrived and had the proverbial "dinner time session", which made for a long dinner hour!  The lamp was soon "swinging" as it was 50 years since majority of shipmates had met.  It got so rough one could almost feel the deck sloping! Good preparation for the main "Meet & Greet" in the evening.

The "Meet & Greet" in the evening consisted of about 97% of the people who had planned to attend the reunion weekend [Officers attending Saturday Gala Dinner Only]. All the wives and significant others also joined in the fun.  Many shipmates had reported to me that their wives were a little dubious about meeting another wives they had never met.  However ice soon melted and the cordial atmosphere and pleasant surroundings saw them making friends very quickly. Much "Lamp Swinging" took place, old  photographs and memorabilia passed around and many tales of the super runs ashore we had all experienced so many years before.

The Saturday bus trip for a quick mystery tour, buffet lunch and tot at the Exeter White Ensign Club was well supported, once again majority of shipmates and wives filling the 55 seater.

The White Club ladies did us proud, serving up a wonderful selection of finger foods and sweets.  The Club Rum crew, decked out in Nelson person Matelot & Royal Marine uniforms with the rum barrel also did us proud, sippers and miss-musters being the order of the day.

The evening gala dinner was marvellous, the staff did us proud, excellent meal and good service.  Sadly their were a number of shipmates who had attended 2001 reunion who had "Crossed the Bar". A moments silence was observed in their memory, followed by Norrie Millen reciting "On all the oceans, White caps flow" a nautical version of Flanders Field.
