Godfrey Abrams is seeking information about his maternal Greatgrandfather; his wife and/or relatives.
I am anxious to make contact with anyone who may be able to shed any light on my ancestry, or living relatives.

WHARTON

I too am seeking information on the Whartons of Georgetown, Guiana. Could this be the same family ? We are descendants of Shelda Wharton, whose father was George Wharton, and his father was Donald Wharton. Do any of these names ring any bells ?

The Wharton names that you quote do not register with me; I guess it depends upon how far back those names occur.

I have only managed to go back as far as edward Wharton circa 1875?

Hi Godfrey, My Shelda Wharton was mid 1930's, so her father George Wharton at a guess would be early 1900's and Donald Wharton, probably around the same date as you, 1875 ish. Is your Wharton family white or coloured ?

Our Whartons are coloured.
A mixture of seafarers, bakers, journalist, etc. In fact Claude Wharton, a cousin of mine, use to sing on the "Bob White Show," on the radio, in the late 1940s. His mother was Edith Chase from Barbados.

Hi Godfrey, My Whartons are also coloured. My George Wharton was also a seafarer, a ships' master, so I am told. I would so like to be able to find out more about the family.
