Manuscript Sources for the History of the West Indies

Postby MargoMcP » Thu Mar 04, 2010 3:10 am

I have K.E. Ingram's book, Manuscript Sources for the History of the West Indies: with special reference to Jamaica in the National Library of Jamaica and supplementary sources in the West Indies, North America, the United Kingdom and elsewhere published by the University of the West Indies Press. It has over 2000 notations, over 500 pages and lots of supplemental stuff (from around the world, not just the Library in Jamaica). Google's got a limited preview (why I bought it, it wouldn't let me see all of what I needed :-) http://books.google.com/books?vid=ISBN9766400253 but it might give you hints where to look, who to write to, etc. I'll be glad to look up names/people.

There's a slave, William Stewart, on Trinidad in 1822, a house servant:

And several departures from Trinidad by other William Stewarts:

I didn't find anything in either book I have, Walne's A Guide to Manuscript Sopurces for the History of Latin America and the Caribbean in the British Isles or the Ingram, above or anything about a Frances related to Trinidad.

I am looking for any information regarding any of the following individuals from Dry Harbour (Discovery Bay) Jamaica:

William Henry Stewart (of Scotland?) m. Miriam Taylor (born in Barton Bowen, J.A.?) William may have been a seaman.
Son: William Henry Stewart a.k.a "Old Razor" (1859-1932?) m. Annie Hines(1854-1922?) William was apparently a carpenter and & millwright.

Stewart Children born in Jamaica:
Ernest Samuel b. April 15, 1876, St. Ann – spouse Betty Mueller b. ~1891
Partners: Cathrine Williams (Miss Katie), Eryphena Louise Mcalester (Scott) 1893-1950, Matilda Allen
Alfred Hugh b. June 20, 1879, Cottage St. Ann - spouse/partners: Mary Frances Allen (Fanny), Florence Lemonias ~ 1887
Edward Nathaniel b. June 4, 1881, Cottage St. Ann m. Ardel Fedelia Johnson b. Feb. 16, 1903. Edward was a carpenter.
Charles Ernald (Arnald?) b. May 22, 1883, Cottage St. Ann m. Maude Dunbar
(Maria) Maude b. July 1, 1886 m. Percival Cover - partners: Augustus Edwards, Unknown Thompson
Ida Idilla b. November 7, 1888 Cottage, St. Ann
Henry or William Henry?

I would like to confirm the parents of William Henry Jr. and his origins, DOB, DOD and marriage etc. Also to find out more about his ancestors.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks for all your help. Let's try these names. Mitchell Barron wife Anistesia. She was from the Napois Indigenous Tribe.

They lived in Trinidad. No history of them leaving. Their Children were Frances, Eliza, Mitchell, Joseph Ernestine and Rosana.

Not sure of the years, but all in the 1900's. Thanks. From Central Trinidad.

Hello

I'm new to the computer so I have trouble navigating these sites. I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

My uncle Able Dowswell was thought to be in the British Military but no record could be found.

His seventh child Cecilia claimed her inheritance in 1904. I don't know if any of this helps.

Thanks Again!

Thank you for your help,We know all about our Dowswell roots. The only missing piece is Abel and Ann Lozanne's children. The family holds a big reunion every year, one cousin keeps a current record and charts of the family tree.I have photos of Old Able and two of his children believed to be sent to Canada to school.I've just recently been in contact with this cousin he has searched Abel before and found out all about him when he returned to Can. in 1852.I looked at your book this morning I saw no Dowswell's or Lozanne.Like I said before I suck at this sort of thing.I know Abel was a member of the Masonic Order in Jamaica and Cecilia's married name was Palmer. Thanks again for your help it is very much appreciated. The Dowswell's would love to find our Jamaican relatives
