PLACE/PETERS - Barbados/Bermuda/New York

Postby Debbie Dee » Sun Jul 12, 2015 8:07 pm

I'm Debbie Dee and I’m researching my g-g-g grandparents John Amos and Priscilla Marcelline Place, married 15 Feb 1836, Percé, Gaspé, Québec, Canada. John was a widower of Rosanne Peters. He was baptized on 12 Feb 1832, Percé at about 42 years old. John was from Barbados and Priscilla, aka Marcelline, was from New York, her parents were from Bermuda. I don't know where Roseanne Peters was from but likely Barbados. There is said to be a connection between John Amos and the name LAMBERT.

John and Priscilla had 5 children: James, John, Richard, Henry and Marie (or Mary), possibly another child called Rose.

John came to Gaspé as either a slave, a servant of white Loyalist, or as the son or grandson of a Black Loyalist. Priscilla came to Gaspé from New York (possibly via Nova Scotia), her parents Richard and Ruth Place were of Bermuda and she may have had a brother named Richard with her. They may be been descended from Black Loyalists or were associated with a white Loyalist named Place.
