CAMPBELL - Barbuda

Postby clancam » Mon Apr 22, 2013 5:26 am

I'm searching for my ancestor John Campbell, born Scotland 1826. A sea captain, he was in command of a ship "The Duke" ON15028 when it was wrecked on Barbuda on the 1st January 1867. He and all the crew survived.

He appears on the UK Census 1871 with his family in Liverpool UK, however can find no evidence of sea-duty after 1867.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on any official enquiry of the wreck and if he did work again after the loss of "The Duke".

Also, was "The Duke" the ship's actual name, or perhaps "Duke of " (eg, Cambridge,Richmond,Wales etc.)?

Regards
