Would anyone be have any information about a Lachlan McKinnon (b. circa 1750 and d. circa 1800)? I believe him to be from Scotland and he worked in Jamaica as an overseer. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. :D

I have an interest in Lewis/Louis MacKinnon born 1809 in Ayr, The family often used the middle name Fullerton. See my website http://www.linleyfh.com.

in 1844 he became manager of the Vere estate. He's too late to be a close relative of your man, but Scottish families did stick together, especially in foreign lands.

I have just seen the query placed by 'Reds' in 2012 - sorry. The letter is transcribed on my website. Hope you've found it by now. Would love to hear back if you found a connection.

I have been unable to find a relationship to my husband's family, but he calls my husband's gt gt grand-mother Mary Reddish, "my dearly beloved cousin" in the letter dated 1878 from Whim Harbour, Jamaica.

As it is I'm not so much looking for Lachlan McKinnon but rather a McKinnon that may be related to me.

Observable Fats:
1) My ancestors are from Jamaica.
2) My DNA tests suggest that my paternal line is from Irish/Scottish descent.
3) My Y-DNA Haploid group matches many people with the surname McKinnon. (Yes, other surnames match)
4) My genealogy shows that my paternal line is Thompson but Thompson's tend to be from England.
5) ftDNA results show that I have very little in common with people with surnames Thompson but that I match many McKinnon's.

Hence, it looks like I'm currently looking for a Irish/Scottish connection. That connection may be a McKinnon. While asking around someone mentioned that a Lachlan McKinnon when to Jamaica.

Thanks Domenique for your help and the lead.

Gratefully yours,
Floyd
