Enrique Moreira and Quiteria de Sosa (or Souza) migrated to Puerto Rico around 1800 and settled in the town of Luquillo, in an area with fertile lands known as the "Barrio Pitahaya". They came from the wine-producing area of Porto (or Oporto) in Portugal. Their children included my paternal grandfather's grandparent Joaquin, married to Catalina Lopez and father of several children, including my great grandmother Luisa Moreira. The Moreira surname appears to be as widespread in Portugal as the surname Lopez is in Spain, so that links with their origins are difficult to trace back in those countries.
