Helllo,
In regards to your listing of the descendants of Scipio Hodge,

" Benjamin of anguilla HODGE b: Bef. August 11, 1833 in of Valley Division, Anguilla. Free. d: Abt. October 10, 1903 in Long Ground, Anguilla. Aged 70y. Burial: October 11, 1903 Anguilla, West Indies. Baptism: August 11, 1833 Anglican Church, Anguilla."

Do you know if this Benjamin was married to a Margaret Pitcher? I know at least two of the children were Walter and William (born about 1866)

Thank you,
Saundra

That Benjamin was the son of slaves - Scipio Hodge, a free black man (freed/manumitted 24 Aug 1813 by Dr Benjamin Gumbs Hodge but formerly belonging to Ann Rogers (deceased)) and Rebecca Carty, a slave of ?

His son Benjamin is named in his Will of 4 May 1873, along with his other children.

The only Pitcher names (and no Margaret) I have on my database were of St. Kitts/Bath and Cheltenham.

My Pitcher info comes from Caribbeana Vol 1.

Sorry, can't help you more but have many Benjamin Hodge names from various islands on my database.

Thank you. I don't think this is my Benjamin. Yes, unfortunately for me, Benjamin Hodge is a common name. I will find him eventually.
My problem is my great grandfather's marriage and death records state he's from the British West Indies. His marriage license states his parents are Margaret Pitcher and Benjamin Hodge. The census records state, British West Indies. Family lore says Trinidad but I'm not sure if he was from Trinidad.
