BERNARD - Jamaica, St. James

Postby simtesh » Sun Jun 19, 2016 9:49 pm

Hello,

Inquiring about any BERNARD from St. James (Cambridge/Catadupa/Lapland area) -- my great-great grandmother was "Rebecca Bernard," and the only other information I was able to find per her marriage record was her father's name, "James Bernard."

Hoping to find some connections!

Hi - Have you looked at the 'Jamaican Genealogy Resources' group on Facebook? This group will give you a lot of guidance on where to look for your ancestors. There is also a Group called 'The Bernard surnames of St James Jamaica' which I have joined but you need to have a DNA test to be a member. The Bernards were French Huguenot refugees and my 6th great grandfather Daniel Bernard was a planter and owned Roehampton Estate in St James. I have quite a few Bernards in my database but no Rebeccas.

Hi Tim,

I'm actually a member of both groups, but thank you! I read some info about the Bernards and Roehampton, but haven't gotten far enough with the Bernard branch of my tree to make a connection just yet.
