Looking for a Francis Mathias married to a Maria Theresa Nascimento in Georgetown...They had son Wilfrid Joseph Mathias married to Elvie Gonsalves and they came to USA in approx. 1950...Wilford (b 1911-d.1994) and Elvie or Elvira( b. 1907...d. 1976) settled in New York.
Her mother was Matilda Gonsalves and she owned a store in Georgetown referred to by people as a "compound"..She was called Mother G and owned and operated this store. I have seen pictures of the compound and it looks to be very large and hopefully will be remembered by some one.
The children of Wilfrid and Elvie Gonsalves were Helen (1937), Donald (1938), Robert (1942), Frank (1946)all born in Guyana and all came to USA in early 50's.

I am also looking for information regarding MY family!
I am Donald Mathias' daughter. Wilfred and Elvie are my grandparents and Francis and Maria (Nascimento) and Matilda Gonsalves are my great grandparents. I want to know what nationality they were. And with what other nationalities are we associated?? Also, I am told that we might possibly be related to Pelé, the great Brazilian soccer star!! His last name is Nascimento like my great grandmother's.
Do you have any insight into any of this?
I would great appreciate any information that you have!
Thank you so much,
Donna Mathias McPartland

This may not be useful. I have Sacred Heart church record of Mariam Gonsalves married to Emmanuel De Lima on December 22, 1872. Mariam's father listed as Emmanuel Texeira with no mother listed. Witnesses at wedding were Francisco & Joaquina de Cambra.
