FENTY - Barbados, Bridgetown

Postby jambo » Sun Nov 05, 2006 9:51 pm

Looking for info on Richard Francis FENTY a watchmaker of Bridgetown who was the 2nd husband of Sarah Frances nee WOODMAN (her 1st was William Benjamin WESTON). They married in 1869 (St Michaels). They had at least one son, Richard "Richie".

I would appreciate any help or info on any of these surnames, thanks.

Hi,

I just posted regarding James Fenty, married in 1828. On his daughter's death record, his occupation was listed as jeweler; I am just wondering if there could be a connection?

Hi Lori

Jeweler and watchmaker could be connected - I just don't have any other information on the Fenty's other than he married Sarah (possibly a second marriage for Richard). I wish there was more information available about Barbados.....its been driving me crazy that I have come up against a brick wall on that part of my family tree.

I would love to hear from you if you are able to find out anything else.

Hi Kay,
Not sure if Fenty is part of your direct line or not, but it is for my husband. James Fenty is 3xg-grandfather for my husband. My husband and his brother have dna test results at gedmatch (free site that lets you compare tests from various companies). 4th cousins have about a 45% chance of showing up as matches I think. If Fenty is a direct line for you, and you have done any dna testing, let me know.
Thanks,
Lori

Hi Lori

Thanks for getting back to me. Fenty is not a direct line for me and I have no DNA info. All I have on Richard Fenty is that he was a watchmaker. He was born around 1824 and his father's name was James. He married my 3x great grandmother in 1869 in St Michael Parish. She was Sarah Francis Woodman born 1809 to Samuel Woodman and Margaret in Bridgetown. Her father was a sugar planter. Her first marriage was to William Benjamin Western/Weston in 1830. He died in 1842. He was a saddler. There is mention of a son of Richard's named Richie Fenty but I do not know who his mother was. Sarah would be a bit old for child-bearing by the time she married Richard Fenty.

That is it and it is so frustrating. Maybe one of these days I will be able to get more information on my ancestors from Barbados. I would appreciate an update if you find out anything else.

Thanks Kay

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rihanna#Early_life

Early life
Rihanna grew up in the city of Bridgetown, Barbados.

Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20, 1988, in Saint Michael, Barbados. Her mother, Monica Braithwaite, is a retired accountant of Afro-Guyanese background, and her father, Ronald Fenty, is a warehouse supervisor of Barbadian and Irish descent. Rihanna has two brothers, Rorrey and Rajad Fenty, and two half-sisters and a half-brother from her father's side, each born to different mothers from his previous relationships. She grew up in a three-bedroom bungalow in Bridgetown and sold clothes with her father in a stall on the street. Rihanna's childhood was deeply affected by her father's addiction to crack cocaine and alcohol. By the time she was fourteen, her parents had divorced. Rihanna grew up listening to reggae music and began singing at around the age of seven. She attended Charles F. Broome Memorial Primary School and Combermere High School, where she studied alongside future England cricketer Chris Jordan and formed a musical trio with two of her classmates. Rihanna was an army cadet in a sub-military programme; the singer-songwriter Shontelle was her drill sergeant. Although she initially wanted to graduate from high school, she chose to pursue a musical career instead.

As a webmaster I almost could not do without it. Here is a useful page along those lines

But I am also originally from Barbados (now live north of Toronto), and I know relatives of hers from St. Lucia who now live in Calgary - the husband is a Captain for Westjet.

Hi Lori,

I am a descendent of the Fenty family. My 5th great grandparents were Thomas and Sarah Fenty, who had two children: Joanna (b 1749) and James (b 1747). Perhaps we are related to your husband?

Other names in my family line are Dawson, Girdwood, Manning, vMarshall and Todd.

Any connections there?

Best, Frankie
