Stewart or Espent

Hi have just started researching my family tree, Found marraige certificate for my mum and dad and saw he had 2 surnames, Stewart and Espent. Dad was from St Catherine and was born around 1894, Really curious about why he had 2 surnames. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Thanks

Just found out that dad was actually from Port Maria, His father was called Samuel Stewart, and he was once married to May Stewart.
