I'm searching for information relating to the surname Hodge. Does anyone know it's origins and the approximate year it first appeared in Anguilla.

Thank you.

William Hodge of Nevis was an indentured man from Bristol to John Swayne of Nevis 24 Dec 1672.

Henry Hodge, senior of Anguilla was mentioned in an island Deed of 26 November 1798 which refers to an old Deed of 17 May 1704 in which Henry Hodge senior, deceased, is mentioned with land at Great Sile Bay Pond now in the possession of his son, Thomas. Also named is Captain Abraham Hodge, with land in the same area at the eastern end of the island.

Hi,

I'm David French from Guadeloupe.

I'm looking for information about Edwige dite Virginia HODGE. She was born in Anguilla in 1899. Her parents were William HODGE and Eglantine OQUEZALIE. She came to Guadeloupe (Marie-Galante) and married a French fisherman in 1935.

I don't know why she left Anguilla, or who her family was.

Can you help me?

Thanks, David

David...

Fourth child in this last list is Anne Virginia Hodge b.1898, baptised 1899. Many records I have seen provide the date of baptism and not the date of birth, and people sometimes use one as the other.

Perhaps Virginia is the real name and Edwige is the name she was called?

Just a thought...

Best, Jim
