The Anguilla Slave Compensation Claims (originals) we found in St. Kitts and transcribed had no Dinzey name.
I know the PRO in London has another copy of the claims so there could have been one or two missing in St. Kitts.

There is a Jacob Howell senior Fleming, the son of Thomas Hodge Fleming and Johanna. They were of Anguilla/Sint Maarten.

Then Jacob Howell senior Fleming and Johanna Howell (2nd wife) have a son Jacob Howell jnr Fleming.

We know this as there is a Deed No. 103 in Anguilla Archives dated 19 Feb 1829 in Johanna Howell's name in which she states:
Know all men by these presents that I, Johanna Fleming, of the island aforesaid have made and ordained constituted and appointed and by these presents do make and ordain and constitute and appoint my son, Jacob H Fleming to be my true [executor] and lawful attorney, for me and in my name, and to and for my proper use -- etc

This Deed was proved 26 Feb 1829.

This senior Jacob H Fleming also had a daughter, Laura Howell Fleming by the first wife (unknown).

This information comes from the Will of the sister of Thomas Hodge Fleming, ie Ruth Hodge Fleming.

Anguilla Deed No. 347
In the name of God, Amen, I, Ruth Hodge Fleming of the said Island, spinster, being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, do make publish and declare the following as and for my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills at any time heretofore made and published by me.
Imprimis: I desire that my funeral expenses just debts and [-] charge of proving this my Will be first paid.

Item 1st: I give devise and bequeath my mahogany toilet to my niece Mary Sarah Lloyd, to her, her heirs and assigns.

Item 2nd. I will and bequeath to my niece, Laura Howell Fleming, daughter of my nephew Jacob Howell Fleming, deceased, my large bedstead and all my bedding to her, her heirs and assigns.

Item 3rd: It is my will that my mahogany buffet, chairs, liquor, [Glass] and Mahogany square table with two half rounds be sold by my executors and the proceeds thereof be given to Jacob Howell Fleming, son of my nephew Jacob Howell Fleming, deceased, by his second wife.

Item 4th: I give devise and bequeath the one half of my real estate to my niece, Mary Sarah Lloyd, and to my nephew, Jacob Howell Fleming, son of my said nephew, Jacob Howell Fleming, deceased, by his second wife, to them their heirs and assigns; and if either the said Mary Sarah Lloyd or the said Jacob Howell Fleming should die without lawful issue before a general division of my estate as hereinafter directed, the part hereby devised to her or him shall go to the survivor. -- etc

Jacob Howell Fleming married to Eliza were living in East End, Spring Division Anguilla when their children were baptized Anglican Church records of Anguilla but states "Merchant of St. Bartholomew".

The children, Thomas Henry and Louisa Amanda, were both baptized the same day, ie March 2 1827. The Anglican records only started that year in Anguilla; I had transcribed Louisa Amanda as Eloisa Amanda. I would have to go back and look at the film of that page to see if I was correct as it's possible it was written thus. However, I will amend my records to Louisa Amanda.

On 6th April 1827, Eliza, daughter of Jacob H & Eliza Fleming of East End, Spring Division, Anguilla, (he a merchant of St. Barts) was baptized.
In none of the three baptisms is their birth date given.

George Washington Fleming is baptised 17 May 1834. No birth date given. Their abode is given as the island of St. Bartholomew. Father a Merchant.

So, possibly by 1834 they were resident in St. Barts. But Jacob Howell Fleming senior definitely had close contact with Anguilla (possibly living there) and Sint Maarten.

I will just give you 6 generations of the family but if you send me a private message with your email, I will send you full details of what I have for you to correct. My lines are Richardson/Hodge/Gumbs/Howell - the families in the islands inter-married so much during the 17/18/19centuries. The Mary de Weever Richardson shown below is the daughter of my g.g.grandfather's first marriage.

I have some bits of information about the Dinsey Family; however, I'm afraid I have more questions than answers. I found inscriptions in an old (1723) family. I have been able to find the marriage of Thomas Dinsey and Sarah Tyler and the birth of two children:

"______ was born April <4 01>__________ Octor 25th 17< >______

*******Note: 1741 Dec 27, [Baptism of] Edward s. of Thomas Dinsey and Sarah his wife. Born Nov. 9th [Ditto, page 8]

In the same records, I also found the birth/baptism of Henry Tyler Dinsey, son of Thomas and Sarah in 1744and then the marriage of Henry Tyler Dinsey to Elizbeth Finch in 1763. Also in the same records I found an Ann Dinsey marriage to John Pickering in 1803 and baptism of sons John Joseph and William Anthony is 1803. (Both sons' birthrates are given as 10 Dec 1801. There is a Catherine Dinsey who married Solomon Romney in 1776. There are many Warners, including the minister who recorded some of the rites, but I did not find Ann and Thomas mentioned above********

Please contact me if you know anything more about this family. I will be happy to send a photo of the bible records. (The page is in pieces) btw My ancestors' family records are recorded on other pages in the bible... apparently after the Dinsey records. I have not found any connection between the families...the only possible link I found is that mine were ship builders/owners.

With kindest regards,

Pam
