Hi there, although she was born on Dominica my mum thinks her family [Celaire] were originally from Guadeloupe......? Happy to get any tips on how to try and dig a little more!

Somewhere in the Useful Links Board there is a link to search a database for the French Possessions.

Other than that, have you searched familysearch.org yet? Whenever you do so, scroll to the bottom, sometimes there are whole family trees in their database which are not listed in the usual search responses.

And if you search on Facebook for "islandname genealogy" (without the quotes) there is usually a Group waiting to help anyone search. For instance, Jamaica has AT LEAST one Group for each Parish, and others which help for the whole island.

I also suggest you heed the warning NOT to send money to people working at a Registrar's Office for finding and sending records for you. The money usually disappears and the registrars don't follow up complaints because they don't want to cause any trouble. Best is to find a researcher and do everything through them, or take a vacation and do it yourself.
