Hi

Looking for any information on Williams of Jamaica, notably descendants of William, Rowland and Lewis Williams who were granted a Patent for 600 acres in 1671. In particular, descendants of William Rowe Williams (1844-1906).

Always glad to hear from other Williams descendants.

Also looking for a copy of "The Williams of Jamaica and Their Descendants", by E.K. Williams, published privately in Manitoba, 1959.

[Updated 5th Feb 07]
Lineage as follows:
Lewis Williams (c1650 - ??)
Rowland Williams (c1675 - 1723)
Lewis Williams (1703 - 1770)
John Merrick Williams (1736 - 1786)
Raby Williams (1768 - 1808) (minister)
Joseph Williams (1807 - 1898) (minister)
William Rowe Williams (1844 - 1906) + Rowland Ashby Williams (1846 - 1921) + Raby Robert Williams (1855 - 1927)

The first Lewis Williams was born in Glamorgan and settled in Jamaica by 1671, along with his brothers, as indicated above. These Williams were all born and lived in Jamaica, with the exception of William Rowe Williams who went to India before returning later in life. AFAIK the children of the final generation listed above all left Jamaica and their descendants are known to be mainly in Canada, US, UK.

Are any of your Williams related to those in Clarendon and St. Elizabeth? I can go back the mid-1800s and possibly earlier.

Thanks

My name is Garth Williams, of the Williams family Spanish Town, Jamaica.

I have researched my family a bit and would like to get in contact decendants or relatives of Luther Nathaniel Williams Sr. or Jr.

Luther Williams Jr. is my grand-father. I believe there may be another Luther Williams Jr. the youngest known child of Luther Williams Sr. (Pappy).

Not sure if they are related, but they may be. The Williams brothers of the 1800s were spread out and had a lot of businesses across Jamaica. Oral history does have mention of East Indian in this line as well as Scottish and African-Jamaican

A quick look on the internet shows that there is a copy of this book in the Stratford Public Library, 19 St Andrew St., Stratford, Ontario.

If you are in the US or Canada, ask your local Library if they are affiliated to the north american ILL - Inter-Library Loan - arrangement - and if so ask to borrow the book from the Stratford Public Library. It will be sent to your local Library for you (I do not know if there are any charges applicable, but that's something you can ask about at the same time too).

I have the Williams connected to Clarendon and St Elizabeth from the 1800s through the mid-1900s. One of the Williams(f) married a Robinson(m) in the early 1900s and the Robinson connection had Robinson and Groves from Morant Bay.
