SAUNDERS in Jamaica

Postby Jim » Sun Jun 11, 2006 11:39 pm

Looking for information about the life of Dr Arthur Rich Saunders (1846 - 1915) & family in Jamaica. He arrived in Jamaica from Wales in the 1860's and practised in Port Maria and in Kingston. He married Emma Louise Phillippo (The daughter of his medical partner James Phillippo) in 1877 in Kingston and had six children Helen, Elizabeth, Isabel, Harold, Arthur and Frank. Known to their family as Nell, Elsie, Minna, Harold, Hugh and Frank. I have followed Arthur, Emma and all the children to England and their career paths.

Arthur's brother Dr Francis (Frank) Henry Saunders (1852-1940) also went from Wales to Jamaica and practised medecine in Kingston. From an undated, unidentified clipping Frank was married to Nora Radcl;iffe and had children (at least two daughters, Isabel and Irene) and stayed in Jamaica. Unlike his brother Arthur, Frank stayed in Jamaica until his death.
