MINGOES - Jamaica, St. Ann (Bamboo, Shelley Road)

Postby rhampton » Wed Oct 31, 2012 1:35 pm

I am looking for information on my great, great grandfather Emanuel MINGOES. He was also married to Lydian Fulton Mingoes.

He had to be born somewhere in the 1850's or 1860's. It is rumored that he is from Portuguese descent or could possibly have been born in Cuba, Brazil, or Portugal. I have heard it said that the Mingoes had been indentured servants.

Emanuel and Lydia had eight children:

Delpenia Agathar Mingoes NELSON: born 1882 –
Aribella Adirah MINGOES: born 1885 –
James Adolphus MINGOES: born 1888 – died 1929
Samuel MINGOES (only found male birth certificate with no name. Used process of elimination): born 1890 –
Lilian Adorah MINGOES: born 1893 –
Gertrude Etilda MINGOES: born 1896 –
Jurbert Standfast MINGOES: born 1900 – died 1980
Beatrice MINGOES: (no birth certificate found)

I have been able to locate information on almost all of Emanuel and Lydia's children. Any information would be extremely helpful on where Emmanuel and his wife came from originally.

I guess you looked there already, but these are from the IGI. Bear in mind that priests and other scribes wrote down what they heard spoken, and they did it in a day when few other people could read or write... so "Anabella A..Rah Mingoes" could in fact be "Anabella Adorah Mingoes".

These suggest to me that John Fulton and Rebecca Edwards were not married, nor were their daughter Elizabeth Lydia Fulton and Emanuel Mingoes - I can't find marriage records for them either (although it is possible that the records may have been destroyed).

The last record above is from Canada, and suggests that John Fulton and Rebecca E (Edwards?) may have married there (if Rachel Fulton is a sister of Elizabeth).

When there is a shortage of information it's necessary to try to fit a puzzle together. I won't give any more time to it., but if you go on the IGI you should start looking for the marriage record of John Fulton and Rebecca Edwards - and so perhaps discover what the E in Rebecca's last name stood for - you might get lucky, or at least be able to discard incorrect information and move on to somewhere else.

Thanks for the help. I am not sure that the John S. Fulton you are referring to is related to Elizabeth Lydia Fulton. He is from the parish of Clarendon and she is from St. Ann. I will look into this further to see if there is a connection. There could be you ever know. Your help is much appreciated. :)

Bimjim,

On second thought, Clarendon and St. Ann are not too far from each other on the map. They border each other. It is not entirely possible that the Fultons of Clarendon would bear any relation to the Fultons of St. Ann. You just gave me another possible angle. Gracias! :D
