Karen,

Getting back to topic~ I just joined a new website, "Searching For Our Roots" operated by Priscilla Colon. Very cool website. In any case on one of the pages it lists Manuel Morales y Clara and his son, Ernesto Morales. It's under a heading that reads "Censor Electoral Eleccion de Compromisarios para Senadores 1885". Quite a few of the towns are listed including Vieques. Not at all sure what it all means. Seems to have something to do with the towns' election process. In any case, it would seem to indicate that Manuel was still alive and well and living in Vieques in 1885. Interesting... :-)
