Hello, I am new to this site, so may not be able to move around it with ease until I've found my feet.

My Jeffrey surname came from Barbuda - what exactly are you looking for?

Crumbs, you don't give much up do you?? Ok, my Grandfather Edward Jeffrey b1874 in Barbuda died 1941 in Gwehelog, Wales, UK. Parents: Urias Jeffrey (can't give you dates at present) and Amelia Joseph (no date at present), both parents stayed in Barbuda Antigua.

Edward married Alma Howe June 1909 and they had many children.

Will you now open up a little to me and let me know if we are searching the same Jeffrey family tree?

Regards, Rosaline

Sorry in a bit of a rush yesterday - okay, my Dad's name was Clifford Edmund Jeffrey, born in Antigua November 20th 1930. He died a few years ago. He is one of many children - I can name 12 but folklore has it that there are a few more.

When I visit Antigua they call me 'Marble hill' not Jeffrey. My grandmother's name was Irene and grandfather Edmund, both born in the 1890's.

As part of the Independence ceremonies at least 20 of the family will be in Antigua this year and want to do some more searching.

Hear from you soon

Hello again,

My family doesn't have those names in them. Most of my information is in Ireland as that is where my husband and I bought a property two years ago. I'm in England at the moment with limited information.

I'd best just give you the facts starting with my father and working back.

Reuben Levi Jeffrey b.1924 d.2001, born in Wales.

Edward Oliver Jeffrey (Reuben's father) b.1874 d.1941, born in Barbuda and died in Wales.

Urias Jeffrey b.1806 (Edwards father) born in Barbuda that's all I know.

Amelia Joseph b.1806 (Edwards mother) born in Antigua, that's all I know.

Urias and Amelia had two other children -
Antinette Virginia Matilda b.1878
Beatrice Elizabeth b.1873

On the papers (which my cousin in Wales holds), she told me there were others with the Jeffrey surname. They are as follows:

Rebecca Jeffrey - had an illigitimate son called William Henry b.22/03/1874 (or could be 1873)

William and Mary Jeffrey had a son William Reddington Clifford b.13/11/1878

Urias and Helia had -
Mary Ann Helena Gertrude b.09/07/1871
Alice Andrinia Belle 27/08/1879
Zacharius Emanuel Harman 16/01/1883

Now whether my silly cousin has made a mistake with the name 'Helia' I don't know, meaning those children could in fact be other sisters and a brother of my grandfather Edward.

Your dates are nearer my father's years (1924). I still need to find out about Urias and Amelia then try to go back further than that. I have a cousin who moved to Antigua, and I'm hoping she has continued to search the family history. I don't keep in touch with her and can only find out things from my father's sister.

I hope you have luck with your search and if I find anything out that includes your father's family then I will let you know. I hope you don't mind if I keep a record of your father and his parents in case I come across anything in my search.

Regards to you
Rosaline

Ok and Ellen couldn't have been My Great Great she was to young to have Henry Jeffrey. Now that I back tracked the Birth Certificate of Henry! And I have the Manifest for Ellen and her siblings coming to the states in 1906 at the age of 19. But Timothy Jeffrey is my Great Great and his wife was a Warner! Sorry for that confusion.. :D

It seems like we'd have to find out if Henry Jeffrey and Edward Oliver Jeffrey were of relation being that they were alive around the same time?

My grandfather Edward Clement Oliver Jeffrey born Holy Trinity, Barbuda, 1874 only appears to have had one brother, but this isn't confirmed, it's just one of the names he had in his bible. His brother was Zacharia.

It's real difficult for me to find out much about either of my grandfathers who were born in different parts of the West Indies, because none of my aunts and uncles ever remember meeting them. I'm talking about my mums dad too.

One of Edwards daughters only remembers meeting two of his family members; one is a cousin named Joseph who also lived in Wales, UK, and an aunt named Catherine.

The names you give, well, I haven't come across any of those in my search. .... that doesn't mean there is no connection though, it just means we haven't found the connection yet. Edwards father Urias (my great grandfather) was born into slavery around 1827; I found a record on the Ancestry.co.uk site. I only know who Edwards parents are because we were lucky to have his birth certificate.

I don't know how to research any deeper into the family of Urias Jeffrey and his wife Amelia nee Joseph. If there is a connection between our families, hopefully one day we will find it with countries opening up and putting on-line, their records.

I will keep digging and asking more family what they know! I plan on taking the trip to Antigua this year for a much more hands on search for family! All it takes is one person to fit the puzzle together. High hopes!!

Any information I come across will surely be relayed to you as I receive it.
