Re: GENTLES - Jamaica, All Caribbean

Hello,

I have no record of any of the names you mention. All of mine are Gentles although there is always the possibility of an "s" being dropped somewhere along the line.

Sorry I can't help you

Brian

Re: GENTLES - Scotland to Jamaica

Hello Betty Crosier née Russell. My wife was a Gentles before marriage and like Ron, I have a fairly comprehensive tree of the Gentles family including the 2 brothers that seem to have started the Gentles name off in Jamaica. I have some details of the names you mention, but not all of the dates ass...

Re: GALLIMORE, GENTLES - Bunker's Hill, Trelawny, Jamaica

Hello Percy, Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I still haven't come up with any firm connection yet, although I have found the record of his death and the DoB shown on that is 10th Oct 1917. There are also a couple of marriages, both in Lambeth which might or might not be him. There is also a number o...

Re: GENTLES - Jamaica, All Caribbean

My earliest record in Jamaica is Edmund S. H. Bromfield (1876-1976) who was a Carpenter. He married Elvelena Gentles (1877-1967) in 1899 in Manchester, Jamaica. She would be my 3rd cousin 3 times removed. They had 4 sons, some of whom went on to have children of their own. Who were your Grandparents...

Re: GALLIMORE, GENTLES - Bunker's Hill, Trelawny, Jamaica

Hello Percy, My wife is a Gentles and I research her family on her behalf. Although I am based in the UK, I have many of the Jamaican side listed. However, although I have many Gentles with Augustus in the name, I don't have a Moses. Thomas is a very common name with the Gentles, so without a better...

Re: GENTLES - Jamaica, All Caribbean

Thanks for that Jules. I have most of those. RE; Ivy Waite (1899-1980). You have her married name as Hudson. Can you tell me more about the husband? First name, DoB. DoD, when they married, did they have children, etc.? I have Minna's middle name as Stella. Could this be right or was it Sarah? Do yo...

Re: GENTLES - Jamaica, All Caribbean

Hello Julia, I would like to find out more information about the Waites and the connection with the Gentles Family. The Waites I have are shown as born in Manchester, Middlesex, Jamaica rather than Colyville, hopefully you can fill out more of the details for me. The earliest Waite to join my family...

GENTLES - Jamaica, All Caribbean

I have just joined and hopefully will find out more about a couple of my wife's relatives that emigrated from Falkirk, Scotland to Jamaica around the late 1820's to early 1830's in particular the area around Trelawny. Their names were John GENTLES (1788-1851) and his brother William (1795-1851). I h...
